There are many approaches to chiropractic – Our regulatory body does not differentiate all of them nor do our associations discuss all of them here in Alberta, Canada.
Chiropractic is to help the whole person at any age by locating and removing interference from how the body is designed to work. Taking nothing away nor adding anything within without the use of drugs or surgery. We do this by assessing subluxation (interference if you prefer that word), in the spine/skull, and removing it so the body/physiology can work naturally via the specific and intentional chiropractic adjustment to the spine/skull and nervous system.
In our office we assess the communication between the brain and the body. We do this by measuring the autonomic nerve system, motor and sensory systems.
The sympathetic or parasympathetic system are integral components of how your body works. The autonomic nerve system controls how your body functions, heals, self regulates, rests, digests etc.The autonomic nerve system has control centres in the upper neck which control the respiratory system, heart rate, blood pressure to name a few. ( not limited to )When the body goes through a trauma or stress sometimes it can not restore its normal state of ease and function. The body in states of trauma goes into protection and locks up the spine in areas where the physiology feels threatened.Often once the threat is gone the body will release its protective mechanisms. Some traumas are chronic or so intense be it physical, mental/emoational ot toxic the body won’t release the protective pattern and that is where chiropractic lives!Chiropractic restores movement and alignment of the spine – removing the locked in state of the neurospinal areas immediately interrupting this locked in pattern. The pattern of defence will return, and the time it takes to return depends on the severity of the trauma, the support to the person, the lifestyle and many underlying factors. Consistency in removing the “locked in state, or otherwise known as subluxation,” or can help retrain the body so it does not feel it needs to be in protection all the time. When the body is not stuck in this protective state all the time – the body will heal itself in most cases to its greatest ability, restore function, self regulation and operate more in a greater state of ease versus chronic fight or flight which produces a variety of different symptoms.Chiropractic helps the body move back towards balance, ease and adaptability to make ones physiology and system operate at higher levels of resilience.
In order to support your bodies natural way of functioning we assess the spine and provide specific chiropractic adjustments allowing your body to heal, function, be stronger, have greater resiliency and adaptability to day to day life. Nothing more, nothing less!
