Let’s allow our babies to grow up naturally. Let’s not force it.
Social media has many benefits, yet has created for some a sense of fear or inadequacy of how their 4, 5 or 6 month old is developing. (It can occur at any age).
The fear stems from comparison. The fear is how they are holding their head or why are they rolling one way to the left but not the same on the right. The fear or questions are around, I’ve watched this video on a exercises for a baby, should I do it?
I feel for these parents. My heart goes out to you. There is soooo much information leading to confusion and lacking trust in their child’s ability to do the movement on their own naturally.
ugh
There is a time and place for assessing milestones and when there maybe concerns absolutely. For a parent to feel panic that their baby is not keeping up. Comparison is stealing your joy.
Instead of basking in the joy of a baby, the smiles, coos and joy of seeing them accomplish something new on their own, there is panic and fear encompassing everything. This is hard for the caregivers and the baby. This is heartbreaking to see as a mom myself and health care provider.
Some thoughts;
Some options that may resonate with you, if it doesn’t that is ok.
Bask in the smiles of your baby.
Lie on your tummy on the floor with them. Smile, sing, laugh, read to them, give them eye contact. Engage with them. Touch them, hug them. Let them move and trust their bodies, let them experience how to move on their own, trust their nervous system. They are miracles. 2 half cells united and created your beautiful baby. They have everything inside them that they need to grow and thrive. Trust them, on their own time, they will get there. It is not a race.
Mom’s, Dad’s, Parents, Grandparents – you are doing an amazing job and so is your little.
Breathe.
Take a break from following Instagram or Tik Tok as anxiety does creep in.
If your health provider has noted a concern, you will be guided to places to help. Be it a chiropractor, OT, Physio working together as a team to support you. If you are worried take your little for a check up to a health professional to ensure everything is great.
Remember, it’s not a race. You and your baby have got this.
