Torticollis in Infants; What’s the Cause and Why Can it be so Chronic?

pediatric-chiropractic-care

Torticollis is not just a muscle issue.

It is often a signal of a deeper neurological imbalance from the upper neck and skull.

What is Torticollis?

Or Wry neck? It is a persistent tilt to the head or rotation more often due to asymmetrical tone or restricted sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM). The SCM is rarely the cause but more the result.

It is more often a compensation to a neck subluxation or skull distortion (temporal or frontal), dural meningeal tension, birth injury or intrauterine constraint.

If left uncared for and not adjusted by a chiropractor to remove the distortion or subluxation it can negatively impact visual development, vestibular processing, cranial symmetry, breastfeeding ability, and gross motor milestones.

Chiropractors whom care for babes and toddlers assess C1/2 alignment, Occipital and temporal bone motion, cranial dural tension, fascial patters, primitive reflex integration, oral dysfunction to assess the need to support.

Chiropractic releases dural tension, restores upper neck integrity, supporting the normalizing neurological input to postural muscles and brain body communication.
